This is a extensive history book on yachting etiquette and communications, commissioned by New York Yacht Club Commodore James Gordon Bennett in 1871. While much of the book references racing protocols and cruise procedures, there are entertaining sections, including one dedicated entirely to champagne that covers the correct signals for “I am out of champagne, do you have any?”, along with the appropriate replies “what brands do you prefer?”.
For your next cruise, make sure to take a copy with you. A reprint of the Code of Yachting Signals is available at Amazon.
